Keep it out of the sun and under a tarp that permits airflow.
Hopefully the canoe does not stay outside in perpetuity.

Is it a bad idea to keep outside? That is the plan- to keep it outside on a stand under a tarp from Now on…

Seriously asking here…What’s the difference between being in a shed at-20 and being under a tarp at -20?

Keeping it outside is just fine. However, most canoes that meet their demise are from being outside indefinitely. The tarp blows off, or the canoe rests on the ground. Time goes on. More time. And eventually kaput.

Not saying this is you or your canoe but that’s how it happens.

Hey all.

Would like to get your thoughts. I have a 17’ freedom that was my first cedar strip. It a great boat but I haven’t used it in about 5 years or so since I built my other (better) boat. It’s been sitting in a pole barn since.

I’d like to bring it to my cabin and leave it outside over the winter.

I would put it on a stand of some sort and tarp it of course…

With that in mind…any thoughts? Bad idea?

Keeping a stripper outside under just a tarp, invites rot to the trim on your canoe.
You are far better in a Pole barn !
Any unheated space is fine, so long as it stays dry.
If I had to store outside, Be sure it is Dry, with good air flow .

As a builder ? I hate to see a hull rot !
