Tell me more please. On mine they list fish species, but not the fish surveys. On laptop view it contains depth information (if available) along with the results of fish surveys. "

There are two versions of the lake finder. There is the mobile app and the lake finder on the DNR website. The lake finder on the website is more comprehensive. The website allows you to see stocking reports and the all the surveys done throughout the years.

Winchell is nearest lake from EP 47 with Lake Trout. If available might grab EP 44 Ram Lake permit. Ram, Little Trout and Misquah all have lakers. Bit of a hike up to Ram (90 rods). You can read stories on here about the journey between Little Trout and Misquah.

Here is a link to MN DNR that provides information from their fish surveys on most BWCA lakes: Winchell Lake on Lakefinder

Please note that survey information cannot be viewed on cellphone for some reason.

Good luck and be safe!!

We pulled this permit on short notice for May 13.

I’ve never been in this area. Are there any trout lakes near this EP other than Winchell?

I’ve never tripped in May. Do we pack the screen house for bugs?

We went into EP 47 last May (5/18/23 - 5/21/23). Ice out was May 14th or 15th last year, and bugs were nonexistent until the morning we packed out (that was just a couple of small, slow-moving skeeters). According to MNDNR, there are lake trout in Misquah, and it's technically accessible via EP 47: Lizz-> Caribou -> Horshoe -> Vista -> Misquah.
