I have not been on the Gunflint side of the BWCA in years. But, if my feeble memory serves me well, I think you could follow just about any route you choose.
Have fun!

Just got back from entering Sea Gull & went in to Kek... I didn't have an issue finding a place to hang the hammock... although I did paddle past some sites that wouldn't work. North end of Sea Gull isn't burned.

The only area I recall being short of suitable hanging trees was around Gillis and parts of Little Sag. Everywhere else off the Gunflint and Arrowhead offers fine routes and sites for hammocking.
You say that like it's a bad thing.

It was before I was a hanger but we've done the East Bearskin - Alder - Canoe - Pine - Little Caribou - Caribou - Deer - Moon - East Bearskin (or in reverse) a few times and there are plenty of spots to hang at all campsites I've encountered (especially the huge pines at the sites on Canoe).
To date it's my favorite all-around BW route as it has a little bit of everything I look for. It's a great area and I highly recommend Johnson Falls (of the west end of Pine lake) if you ever do go this route.

+1 There are not many places where you cannot hang in the BWCA.
