Greetings everyone. Really like the information everyone shares on here.
When doing research for our trip, this site has been the biggest help. My son and I are coming up the last week of August before he heads to college. We have never been to the BWCA. We're a little concerned about what I am hearing about the very low water and high water temps. We have our tow booked and have the option of AP or Red Rock Bay.
My son is hoping to get a large pike and we both hope to catch our first lakers. Any ideas on which area we should start would be appreciated. We are coming for six days. Booked with Seagull and planning to base camp at two or three locations, one being Ogish.
Take spinnerbaits like the double-bladed bass baits. Bass and pike will hammer those and if you find weeds, you can toss right over them and not worry about snags for the most part.
Some cranks of different sizes and depths. Lakers will be deep so heavy spoons like little cleo and the like and let them sink quite a ways.
I have an article called Grand Slam Lures which might be helpful - send an email to - queticomike@yahoo.com - and request the Grand Slam article if you are interested in reading it. Good luck on your trip!
