My three teens and I will be looking to basecamp on Crooked in mid-August and I would like to get into a few larger northerns. We usually get 1-2 doozies. Locally we can pull that off with large chubbs and bobbers.
What do you use as a substitute for large lively chubbs in the BW and what should we look for in tossing our floats?

cut bait/frozen whole suckers(4"-6") under a float or slip sinker on bottom , unless it's piss on a plate i prefer bottom slip sinker or your recasting often ;) (from camp anyway)
if you do catch a sucker save , cut out chunks put on hook , all legal.

keep your line wet, good things will happen

A second on the frozen suckers. We bring in live ones in the spring, but dead ones work the same. I have used the same balsa wood slip bobber for the last 15+ trips.
One year a guy in our group brought beer in those 16oz plastic bottles. Someone decided to use an empty for a bobber. What a blast watching the pike take those down! I think we had 3 or 4 beer bottle bobbers floating in a row while fishing from camp. Good times and good luck!

I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don’t know what’s on the other end. Your imagination is under there. Robert Altman
