It appears that I'll be solo again this year although my dog will be joining me. I have this idea of going in on the same day with other solos and spending 1 or more nights together before splitting off doing different routes.
Everyone would need their own permit. I plan to enter on a Thursday and go for 9 nighs coming out on a Saturday. But the number of nights would not matter to the other trippers.
My route would be entering at Prairie portage and doing a clockwise loop through Louisa, McEwen to the falls chain and returning to PP via the Man Chain.
Ideally the group would meet in Ely on the Wednesday and spend the night either at an outfitters bunkhouse on Moose Lake (William & Hall, LaTourells, etc) or at the Canoe Country Outfitters campground there. We could then share a tow on Thursday to PP. The group would paddle together the first day maybe camping in North Bay, Lost Bay or some other central area for night one. Sounds like fun right?
Then we could either split up, stay together for a partial time or even do the whole loop together. I'm very flexible with how it all comes together.
My time frame usually involves Labor Day. It could be at the beginning or the end of the trip. If it's at the end I could come out on a Sunday and do 10 nights (which I would prefer)
Anyway, I wanted to know if there are any other solos out there who might be interested. There is a 4 boat limit when camping (I think).

I'd consider it if the schedule permits. (though North Bay would be off the Louisa path unless you were heading through South and West to Jeff etc). Agnes would be the likely permit to pull four to the same destination.
Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody’s going to die.

Does anyone have a preference on the Thursday that we enter? I'm thinking 8/29. Labor Day is on Mon. 9/2. It's also possible that more than 4 canoes do this for the first night. We would just have to have more than one camp.
My preference for camping the first night is in Lost Bay of Basswood just because I've never been in there but am very flexible about this. Now, the weather might have something to say about where we camp too. If the wind is up it might be hard to make it there.

I'm both interested and confused by the deal. I'll admit that I've never understood the group solo thing.
All the same I think it could be a gas to trip with you and Kanoes.
It won't be for me this year regardless - I've a trip scheduled in late August already and another planned for late Sept. I don't think I could squeeze another one in there. My family would have my bollocks.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

IBFLY, I've only gone either solo or with related family members. I really like doing solos but thought I'd try to come out of my comfort zone a little.
Now really, for this trip because it will be a first for me taking a dog and because I really don't know any others who would join me, I'm leaning toward just spending the first night at a group camp and then splitting off going on our own solos the next day.
I want people to know it's nothing personal but just taking baby steps. I'm going to get a permit for 8/29 and anyone who wants to join me in this endeavor get one too. I think we could do the rest of the planning through email. So send me one if you're game.

I wish I had known sooner. Although May is going to be 1st solo trip I have already scheduled a mid August trip for my 2nd 2013 season. This sounds like an interesting way to trip. Lots of options really. It would be an interesting 1st for me to Quetico as well. Maybe if the wife bails on my August and you still have room I would like to try this idea.
