Wondered if anyone was watching this docuseries on youtube? Very well done, compelling, solo w/dog in its finest. Part 4 was posted the other day...about a third, perhaps, of the journey completed. Check it out.

i've canoed some of this route. haven't watched all the videos yet but my impressions are that soloing in this area is reckless. yes i know he's canadian and this is what they do, labrador and ungava are virtually uninhabited, alaska is crowded by comparison, rescue may not be available. the land and rivers are extremely rugged, crazy scary rapids, i've paddled a few rivers in alaska, they don't compare. i'll be watching these tonight.

I'm a big fan of his. Really wanted to see him at Canoecopia, maybe next year.
What do you guys think of his inflatable boat? not to replace the canoe for the main part of the trip but as a possible way to hike in to remote lakes with just the raft, rod and lunch.

Yeah I watched the Labrador crossing last week and now I'm on his earlier crossing of Newfoundland. He puts a huge effort into filming with multiple cameras going at the same time including a "doggy cam". He's very entertaining too and tough as nails. That Labrador trip rivals what BeaV did in Alaska just not as life threatening.
If anyone could duplicate BeaV's trip I think Justin would have a shot. I'm specifically thinking of the Bering sea section that BeaV amazingly survived.

boonie: " Here's a link to the other one for those who are interested. Not a solo, but a major expedition. Very tough. They posted episode 11 today, which is about 4 weeks into it. "
Yeah, I have communicated with these guys.
They do a great job.

I just finished watching the whole series of videos from Justin crossing Labrador.
I usually don’t watch those types of videos too often on YouTube but this one was a real keeper. His perseverance and sheer brute strength to get as far as he did was amazing. Truly inspiring!

He said he eventually wants to go back where he left his boat and finish the trip. Hopefully it’s this year!

Just finished watching. I give a lot of credit to Suku the lab. I would never want to take my dog on a trip like that. To many ways for him to get seriously injured and adds a new dimension of risk to the trip.
Pretty cool scenery and well edited.

Agreed about the dog and risk of injury. However, the dog has done many gruelling trips with him and he loves that dog, even inadvertantly called the dog his son in a video. Justin treats that dog with so much love.
However, there is an element of risk with a dog but after watching his videos, the dog is an integral part of the trip and the two need each other.

The dog is not a lab. I forget the breed name but it’s a water dog of some sort. I think it’s origin comes from New Foundland but I could be wrong on that.
This is one of Saku’s first big adventures. He was just a pup here and I think it’s where Justin talks about where he got him from. It’s pretty intense as there’s a few rather big miss-haps.

Apparently a Cape Shore Water Dog, and they are apparently an ancestor of Labs.

Yep that’s it! Thanks. One tough water dog living his best life.
