Hi guys.

I plan to do this route next year and am looking for advice. I need an outfitter that would do a drop at Beaverhouse (I just love the way that sounds) and pick up at Nym, rent us 2 kevlars, space to park a couple vehicles. A bunk house for the night before the trip would be nice too. Have any of you used outfitters up there, hey?

Also, is it better to visit the Ranger in Atikokan and pay camp fees the day before rather than making a stop on Beaverhouse? I've read some shady stories about the organization at that place. Does it matter?

Thanks!

Canoe Canada Outfitters in Atikokan. Have used them several times. Very good.

Nothing like reviving a 4-year old thread, but I'm doing some prospecting for a Q trip next year and thought this might be a good route.

My first thoughts are to paddle down Quetico Lake and go through Jesse and Maria up to Batchewaung and out at Nym. I would consider paddling Cirrus, too.

Thoughts? Comments?

I think the Outfitter can get your permit the day before so you do not have to stop at Ranger on Beaverhouse, but I liked Beaverhouse and hope to find more time to explore it.

Cirrus is a very nice paddle Jackfish. Consider shortening the long ride to Beaverhouse entry and enter instead at Lerome Lake - like 20 minutes form Atikokan rather than an hour +. Then head west for a while and drop down to Quetico or Beaverhouse before heading east.

While Atikokan is no Ely, this is a great area to enter because it spreads out so fast and you can paddle a long ways with few portages and not be in the traffic that you see at PP. I can see myself going in through these entry points quite a bit in the future.

Canoe Canada in Atikokan is the way to go.

How many hours to paddle from Lerome to Cirrus? How are the portages in that area (Lerome-Cirrus)? Thanks.

Anthony

I can't speak from personal experience but from trip reports and posts on other boards, enter at Lerome early and be on Cirrus that afternoon. Just read a report from this past month where they made it to Cole (before Cirrus) for first night camping. I think water level affect this route more than some, but that there is only the last portage passing Sur Falls is hard. Try asking at QJ as well. I hope to find out for myself in a year or two.

If you're double portaging, I would give yourself 5 hours to reach Cirrus. This is a wonderful entry point and yes, the last portage is a bit rough.
