Looking for suggestions on areas for us to take our first Quectico trip. Since this is our first trip to Quetico any entry is fine - BUT - I wish to keep this trip to my lovely bow partners preferences. They are, A. Smaller water, rivers are fine. B. Will portage for solitude. C. Enjoys exploring the lake where we are camped for a day or two. D. So travel is slower, not about how much is covered but how well it is discovered by our canoeing and hiking. We are uncertain how many days with changing work dynamics due to the markets, but look for a minimum of 7 maybe 10. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions. Boppa

Boppa,
If you can afford the extra cost the tow across Lac Lacroix gets you into areas that are less crowded right away. Check out our trip report Fishguts 2008 Quetico Chronicles
Prairie Portage is so crowded we might consider making a loop next time and go out the same way.

fishguts,
Thanks for such a quick reply, I will certainly reread that trip report with a different view. Thanks for the advice on the tow, it is something we would consider.

the "S" chain of lakes to the west of Agnes..many short carrys but easy to get into--sort of busy.don't just pass thru like most trips seem to but look around the lakes

this his heading NW tword the carrys to Trant, which i did not take but just explored that part of Silence lake. a short carry to the east will take you out onto Anges for a open, fast run down lake to the carrys back to Prairie Portage..i have done this solo several time and it's a easy trip.if the wind is bad on Agnes just go back by the small S chain lakes..

How about the Man Chain? Should meet all of your requirements. Did that route my first trip to the Quetico and I've been hooked ever since.

wetcanoedog and Kiporby, thanks for your suggestions, we will be checking them out. This is a great excuse for more maps, which I love. Let the planning begin.

Anyone else with an area that will meet our trip preferences, please share and make our winter more enjoyable.

Thanks again,
Boppa
